In this article, a compact sharp‐rejection lowpass filter (SRLPF) is proposed and analyzed. By combining the coupled line section and shunt open‐circuited resonator, a compact lowpass filter with wide stopband and very high passband selectivity is realized. This filter at cutoff frequency f c of 2 GHz has presented very good measured characteristics, including very low insertion loss of 0.15 ± 0.05 dB, wide stopband from 3.2 to 8 GHz and attenuation slope of 51 dB/GHz. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
