Abstract By embedding two folded narrow slots into a rectangular patch, a shorted monopole fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) structure is obtained and can achieve broadband impedance matching for wireless application. Prototype of the obtained design has been constructed and experimentally studied. The measured results explore wide operation with −10 dB impedance bandwidth of 3.21 GHz, ranging from 4.29 to 7.5 GHz, and show good agreement with the numerical predictions. Also, good radiation pattern and high antenna gains over the operating band have also been observed. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
