Abstract Design of a planar monopole antenna with wide impedance bandwidth characteristic for mobile handset application is presented. To enhance the impedance bandwidth characteristic, a beveling technique has been implemented on the radiating patch and two notches are formed along the edge of the ground plane. The proposed antenna has 10 dB return loss impedance bandwidth of about 9.8 GHz (1.66–11.5 GHz). © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
