A novel theoretical formulation is proposed for the analysis of finite‐bandwidth signals propagating in a double‐negative slab. The formulation allows a reduction of computing times for several orders of magnitude. The results for an amplitude‐modulated signal are compared with the numerical data attained using a proprietary FDTD code, demonstrating excellent agreement. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
