Abstract We experimentally demonstrate a novel tunable microwave notch filter using a fiber loop and cascaded fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs), where the filter response can be easily tuned by adjusting the wavelength of the input light. The proposed notch filter is very simple to realize. The required free spectral range (FSR) of the filter can be designed by carefully controlling the written positions of the FBGs in the fiber loop. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
