Excited by a laser focused at one end of a silver nanowire (NW) on a silica substrate, two leaky plasmon modes propagate along the NW and leak into the substrate. In the figure, the cross sections of these two modes are inserted below the NW. As the distance away from the excited spot increases, linear superposition of these two leaky plasmon modes with a wave‐vector difference leads to a beating pattern in intensity. In this figure, it is depicted as an orange beating pattern with intensity decreasing along the NW to the other end. (Picture: Hangbo Yang et al., 10.1002/lpor.201500192 pp. 278–286, in this issue)
