The ν 5 Raman band of CH 3 CD 3 was photographed with a resolution of about 0.4 cm −1 and analysed by an iterative method, in which the peak wavenumbers of the observed and computed contours are compared directly. Precise values for ν 0 and Δ B were obtained, whereas it only could be shown that Δ A is an order of magnitude smaller than Δ B . Some basic problems of the method of analysis are discussed.
