Origin of the Basic Carbon Chain of F Acids Feeding experiments with sodium [2‐ 13 C]acetate on suspension cultures of Saccharum spec. show that the basic carbon chain of F acids 1 is derived from acetate units via the fatty acid pathway. Incorporation of 13 C label was confirmed by GC/MS analysis of the corresponding tetrahydrofuran derivatives 2 .
