Using synchrotron radiation the photoluminescent spectra of both MgCaO with different levels of calcium, and MgO pellet material were measured. The sensitivity at 147 and 172 nm radiation is compared, including the emission spectra. At room temperature MgCaO material can be resonantly excited at both 172 and 188 nm. At room temperature no UV light is emitted from MgCaO, but after cooling down to 20K there is a strong UV emission at 235 nm.
