This article discusses how the Charleston, West Virginia, American Water project team successfully repaired a water main leak on time, within budget, and with zero interruption in customer service. The article discusses the special challenges of the leak's location and procedures for repairing the leak by sealing the pipe from the inside using flexible rubber leak seals that fully encompass the inside circumference of the pipe joint. The bulk of the main repair occurred in two 6‐hr phases over a day and a night. The article discusses measures that were taken to prevent discontinuation of service to customers.
