A striking phenomenon in the dynamics of nonlinear, spatially extended systems is the prop-agation of coherent interfaces that monitor the competition between metastable states. A prototypical example of such systems are reaction-diffusion systems, describing for instance the effect of diffusion, reaction, and convection on combustion fronts [16], or arising as phe-nomenological models in areas ranging from phase boundary motion in material science [3, 4]
