Kinetic and equilibrium data are reported for the sorption of propane, propylene and 1‐butene in two commercial 5A molecular sieves (Davison C‐521 and C‐626). It is shown the kinetics of sorption are controlled by the diffusional resistance of the macropores and tortuosity factors are calculated from the experimental data. Rates of sorption are compared with previous data for the Linde 5A sieve. For measurements over large step changes in concentration, adsorption is much faster than desorption but these differences can be quantitatively accounted for by considering the non‐linearity of the equilibrium isotherms.
