Reaction of 1,2,4‐tris(trimethylsilyl)cyclopentadienyllithium with ferric chloride in THF at ‐95°C leads to the formation of a thermally sensitive iron(III) complex which decomposes to the new dihydrofulvalene derivative 3,7‐dihydro‐1,3,3,5,7,7‐hexakis(trimethylsilyl)fulvalene ( 1 ).
