Abstract The degenerate high density electron gas is considered at finite temperatures using S OMMERFELD 's expansion. In particular the energy and the life time of one‐particle excitations are investigated. For this purpose the real part of the self energy function is calculated up to the order e 4 . Using results derived in [4] the spectral function A (poM) = 2 JmG (poM) can be given explicitely. Furthermore an equation of state and a correct expression for the specific heat are given, the latter containing additional terms to the result of G ELL ‐M ANN .
