Abstract The attempts to explain the elastic behavior of the organic polymer chain neglecting the link interaction is known to be unsatisfactory. Taking into account the interaction between the neighbour links only, the partition function of the polymer chain is estimated asymptotically. The method used is the splitting of the multiple integral into the product by the Laplace transformation, accompanied by the method of the steepest descent. The interaction between the links is proved to lead to the statistical asymmetry of the chain so that the most probable configuration of that is spiral rather than unordered.
