In article number 1910031, Sirsendu Bhowmick, Abhay Pandit, and Anuja Gadekar discuss glycotherapeutics, which can be broadly divided into two subclasses—glycoconjugates as therapeutics and as systems for therapeutic applications. The targetability of glycotherapeutics involves the interplay of glycoconjugates and lectin interactions. On the cell surface, glycans can be found attached to proteins and lipids in the form of glycoproteins, proteoglycans, and glycosphingolipids. Lectins show a specific binding ability towards carbohydrate moieties.
