This thesis studies light-matter interactions in strong and weak couplingregimes. In the first part, we study the formation and propagation ofexciton-polariton condensates in different microcavities in the strong couplingregime. Exciton-polaritons are composite quasiparticles created as a result ofthe strong coupling between microcavity photons and quantum well excitons. Inthe first part of the thesis, we take a system of exciton-polaritons in aKagome lattice and show that an initially localized condensate propagates in aspecific direction in space in the presence of anisotropy in the lattice, andthe initially localized condensate experiences revivals. We also study theformation of exciton-polariton condensates in two different lowest energystates at an exciton-polariton microcavity and the transition from the higherenergy state to the ground state under pulsed and continuous wave excitationconditions by using various pump profiles. In the second part of the thesis, westudy the valley selection rules for the optical transitions from impuritystates to the conduction band in two-dimensional Dirac materials, taking amonolayer of MoS2 as an example, we focus on the weak light-matter couplingregime. We find the spectrum of the light absorption coefficients and calculatethe photon-drag electric current density due to the impurity-band transitions.
