We compare the optical science & engineering educational environments at twouniversities in two countries: Utsunomiya University in Japan, and theUniversity of Arizona in the United States. Because the university educationsystems in the two countries are so different, we also explain how financialarrangements drive many of these differences and discuss how these impactstudent and faculty life.
