In this paper, we consider a stabilization problem of a generalizedthermoelastic system (the so called $\alpha$-$\beta$ system) with delay in apart of the coupled system. For each case, we prove the well-posedness of thecorresponding system using semigroup approach, then under some sufficientconditions we establish some results of exponential and polynomial stability ofthe system through a frequency-domain approach. The results are applied toconcrete examples in thermoelasticity.
