The Chinese Space Station Telescope (CSST) slitless spectroscopic survey willobserve objects to a limiting magnitude of $\sim23$\,mag (5$\sigma$, pointsources) in $U$, $V$, and $I$ over 17,500 square degrees. The spectroscopicobservations are expected to be highly efficient and complete for mappinggalaxies over $0<z<1$ with secure redshift measurements at spectral resolutionsof $R\sim200$, providing unprecedented datasets for cosmological studies. Toquantitatively examine the survey potential, we develop a software tool, namelythe CSST Emulator for Slitless Spectroscopy (\texttt{CESS}), to quicklygenerate simulated 1-D slitless spectra with limited computing resources. Weintroduce the architecture of \texttt{CESS} and the detailed process ofcreating simulated CSST slitless spectra. The extended light distribution of agalaxy induces the self-broadening effect on the 1-D slitless spectrum. Wequantify the effect using morphological parameters: S\'ersic index, effectiveradius, position angle, and axis ratio. Moreover, we also develop a module for\texttt{CESS} to estimate the overlap contamination rate for CSST gratingobservations of galaxies in galaxy clusters. Applying \texttt{CESS} to thehigh-resolution model spectra of a sample of $\sim140$ million galaxies with$m_{z}<21$\,mag selected from the DESI LS DR9 catalogue, we obtain thesimulated CSST slitless spectra. We examine the dependence of measurementerrors on different types of galaxies due to instrumental and observationaleffects and quantitatively investigate the redshift completeness for differentenvironments out to $z\sim1$. Our results show that the CSST spectroscopy isable to provide secure redshifts for about one-quarter of the sample galaxies.
