Traditional absorption spectroscopy has fundamental difficulty in resolvingsmall absorbance from strong background due to the instability of lasersources. Existing background-free methods in broadband vibrational spectroscopyhelp to alleviate this problem but face challenges in realizing either lowextinction ratios or time-resolved field measurements. Here, we introduceoptical-parametric-amplification-enhanced background-free spectroscopy, inwhich the excitation background is first suppressed by an interferometer andthen the free-induction decay that carries molecular signatures is selectivelyamplified. We show that this method can further improve the limit of detectionin linear interferometry by order(s) of magnitude without requiring lowerextinction ratios or time-resolved measurement, which can benefit sensingapplications in detecting trace species.
