With the rapid evolution of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large LanguageModels (LLMs) like ChatGPT have emerged as powerful tools capable oftransforming various sectors. Their vast knowledge base and dynamic interactioncapabilities represent significant potential in improving education byoperating as a personalized assistant. However, the possibility of generatingincorrect, biased, or unhelpful answers are a key challenge to resolve whendeploying LLMs in an education context. This work introduces an innovativearchitecture that combines the strengths of ChatGPT with a traditionalinformation retrieval based chatbot framework to offer enhanced student supportin higher education. Our empirical evaluations underscore the high promise ofthis approach.
