We develop the theory of magnetoresistance oscillations in layeredquasi-two-dimensional (quasi-2D) metals. Using the Kubo-Streda formula, wecalculate the Hall intralayer conductivity in a magnetic field perpendicular toconducting layers. The analytical expressions for the amplitudes and phases ofmagnetic quantum oscillations (MQO) and of the difference or the so-called slowoscillations (SO) are derived as a function of several parameters: magneticfield strength, interlayer transfer integral, temperature, and the electronmean-free time. We calculate the quantum oscillations of the magnetoresistancetensor, because the magnetoresistance rather than conductivity is usuallymeasured. We also discuss the averaging of magnetoresistance oscillations overMQO period due to finite temperature and long-range sample inhomogeneities. Theresults obtained are useful to analyze experimental data on magnetoresistanceoscillations in various quasi-2D metals.
