The integration of solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) and photovoltaic (PV)system is a promising solution to store the fluctuating solar power byproducing green hydrogen. A powerful control strategy is needed to constrainthe temperature gradient and temperature variation rate of SOEC when the solarpower varies dramatically. For the first time, we proposed a control strategythat can regulate the SOEC to thermal neutrality -- temperature gradient andvariation approaching zero -- by adjusting the steam flow rate. Employingnumerical simulation, we evaluated the efficacy of our proposed strategy withina coupled PV-SOEC system under realistic solar irradiance conditions. Solarirradiance data, captured at a two-second interval, enabled us to simulate thesharp variations in solar conditions. Our findings reveal that, in just 15minutes, the proposed control strategy can reduce the temperature gradient andvariation in the SOEC to below 1 K/cm and 1 K/min, respectively, whilemaintaining an average electrolysis efficiency of 91.2%.
