Proton-deuteron elastic scattering is considered in the framework ofmomentum-space Faddeev equations with the screening method for the Coulombinteraction. It is shown how the interplay of the proton-proton Coulombpotential and the deuteron pole in the neutron-proton transition operator leadsto coinciding singularities in the Faddeev equation. As a consequence, therenormalization of the scattering amplitude is needed in the unscreened Coulomblimit. This finding possibly explains why no need for the renormalization wasconjectured in a previous work [Wita{\l}a et al., Eur.~Phys.~J.~A 41, 369(2009)] missing the coincidence of those singularities.
