This paper considers the problem of optimal sensor schedules for remote stateestimation of discrete-event systems. In this setting, the sensors observeinformation from the plant and transmit the observable information to thereceiver or estimator selectively. A transmission mechanism decides whether theobservable information is transmitted or not, according to an informationtransmission policy, such that the receiver has sufficient information tosatisfy the purpose of decision-making. To construct such a transmissionmechanism, we first construct a non-deterministic dynamic observer thatcontains all feasible information transmission policies. Then, we show that theinformation updating rule of the dynamic observer indeed yields the stateestimate from the receiver's point of view. Finally, we propose an approach toextract a specific information transmission policy, realized by a finite-stateautomaton, from the dynamic observer while satisfying some desired observationproperties. To reduce transmission-related costs, we also require that thesensors transmit events as few as possible. A running example is provided toillustrate the proposed procedures.
