Nickel phosphorus trisulfide (NiPS3), a van der Waals (vdW) 2Dantiferromagnet, has captivated enormous attention for its intriguing physicsin recent years. However, despite the fundamental importance of magneticdomains for applications such as antiferromagnetic spintronics, the study ofmagnetic domains in NiPS3 down to atomically thin samples is still lacking.Here, we report the layer-dependent magnetic characteristics and magneticdomains within antiferromagnetic NiPS3 by employing linear dichroism (LD)combined with polarized microscopy, spin-correlated photoluminescence (PL), andRaman spectroscopy. Our observations reveal that theparamagnetic-to-antiferromagnetic phase transition is evident from bilayer tobulk NiPS3 samples, whereas it is absent in the monolayer. Furthermore, ourstudy identifies three distinct antiferromagnetic domains and delves into thedomain evolution within atomically-thin NiPS3. Our discovery provides crucialinsights for the development of antiferromagnetic spintronics and relatedtechnologies.
