Using the Lagrangian transport analysis for the turbulence momentum, theReynolds stress gradient can be expressed as a function of the local momentumflux and force terms. From this perspective of an observer moving at the localmean velocity, the Reynolds stress gradient represents the lateral transport ofstreamwise momentum, balanced by the u'2 transport, pressure and viscous forceterms. Data from direct numerical simulations (DNS) have been used to validatethis approach for adverse pressure-gradient boundary layer flows at Clauserparameter of 1.4 and 39 (Kitsios et al., 2017), with a good degree ofconsistency and agreements. Minute fluctuations and attributes in the Reynoldsshear stress profile are replicated through the Lagrangian momentum equation.Gradient analysis also leads to scaling at the first- and second-derivativelevels, for u'2, v'2 and u'v'.
