Noise generation attributed to the flow around a cylinder and its control isof paramount importance in a multitude of engineering applications. In thisstudy, we employ computational fluid dynamics (CFD) coupled with acousticanalogy, complemented by an analysis grounded in vortex dynamics theory, toexplore the potential of wavy cylinder shapes in improving aerodynamicperformance and mitigating aerodynamic noise. The series cylinder simplifiedfrom the aircraft landing gear and elliptical cylinder noise suppressionmechanism is analyzed.Our research outcomes clearly indicate that ellipticalylinder designs have a notable impact on aerodynamic performance and noisereduction. Specifically, these designs effectively lower the average dragcoefficient and efficiently suppress lift coefficient fluctuations, resultingin an overall reduction in noise production by the elliptical cylinder. Todelve into the underlying mechanisms of noise suppression, our studymeticulously examines the process of vorticity generation around the ellipticalcylinder's surface. This examination yields profound improvements in thedistribution of vorticity on the cylinder's surface, along with a remarkableweakening of the boundary vorticity flux and boundary enstrophy fluxdistribution. These changes result in a notable reduction in vorticitygeneration near the elliptical cylinder wall.These alterations directly lead toa substantial contraction in the distribution of vortex structures in the wakeof the elliptical cylinder, especially affecting large-scale vortexstructures.As a result,The elliptical cylinder noise suppression mechanism wepropose can effectively reduce aerodynamic noise.
