Quantum path interferences occur whenever multiple equivalent and coherenttransitions result in a common final state. Such interferences strongly modifythe probability of a particle to be found in that final state, a key concept ofquantum coherent control. When multiple nonlinear and energy-degeneratetransitions occur in a system, the multitude of possible quantum pathinterferences is hard to disentangle experimentally. Here, we analyze quantumpath interferences during the nonlinear emission of electrons from hybridplasmonic and photonic fields using time-resolved photoemission electronmicroscopy. We experimentally distinguish quantum path interferences byexploiting the momentum difference between photons and plasmons and throughbalancing the relative contributions of their respective fields. Our workprovides a fundamental understanding of the nonlinear photon-plasmon-electroninteraction. Distinguishing emission processes in momentum space, as introducedhere, will ultimately allow nano-optical quantum-correlations to be studiedwithout destroying the quantum path interferences.
