We indicate a new approach to the optimization of the clamped plates withholes. It is based on the use of Hamiltonian systems and the penalization ofthe performance index. The alternative technique employing the penalization ofthe state system, cannot be applied in this case due to the (two) Dirichletboundary conditions. We also include numerical tests exhibiting both shape andtopological modifications, both creating and closing holes.
