Bladder volume measurement is critical for early detection and management oflower urinary tract dysfunctions. The current gold standard is invasive, andalternative technologies either require trained personnel or do not offermedical grade information. Here, we report an integrated wearable ultrasonicbladder volume monitoring (UBVM) device for accurate and autonomous continuousmonitoring of the bladder volume. The device incorporates flexible andair-backed ultrasonic transducers and miniaturized control electronics withwireless data transmission capability. We demonstrated the real-lifeapplication of the device on healthy volunteers with various bladder shapes andsizes with high accuracy. Apart from the lower urinary tract dysfunctions, theproposed technology could also be adapted for various wearable ultrasonicapplications.
