We present a method to obtain a high-significance detection of relativisticeffects on cosmological scales. Measurements of such effects would beinstrumental for our understanding of the Universe, as they would provide afurther confirmation of the validity of general relativity as the correctdescription of the gravitational interaction, in a regime very far from that ofstrong gravity, where it has been tested to exquisite accuracy. Despite itsrelevance, detection of relativistic effects have hitherto eluded us, mainlybecause they are stronger on the largest cosmic scales, plagued by cosmicvariance. Our work focusses on the cosmological probe of galaxy clustering,describing the excess probability of finding pairs of galaxies at a givenseparation due to them being part of the same underlying cosmic large-scalestructure. In particular, we focus on the two-point correlation function of thedistribution of galaxies in Fourier space$-$the power spectrum$-$whererelativistic effects appear as an imaginary contribution to the real powerspectrum. By carefully tailoring cuts in magnitude/luminosity, we are able toobtain two samples (bright and faint) of the same galaxy population, whosecross-correlation power spectrum allows for a detection of the relativisticcontribution well above a significance of $5\,\sigma$.
