The spin-orbit field and interfacial exchange field are two major interfacephenomena, and the detection and manipulation of these fields can enable avariety of nanoscale spintronics devices. Optimizing the interfacial exchangefield, which governs the spin-dependent scattering asymmetry at (ferromagneticinsulator)-(normal metal) interfaces, will pave the way for next-generationnanoscale, low-power insulator spintronics devices. Here, we demonstrate anexperimental pathway to detect an interfacial exchange field between insulatingferromagnet EuS and non-magnetic Cu using an all-electrical method, and showthat the spin-dependent scattering at the common interface can lead to asignificant current-in-plane magnetoresistance in Py|Cu|EuS trilayer Hall-bardevices. Our experiment suggests that simple measurements can be used toexperimentally detect the interfacial exchange field and thereby the magneticstate of a ferromagnetic insulator.
