Entangled photon states are a fundamental resource for optical quantumtechnologies and investigating the fundamental predictions of quantummechanics. Up to now such states are mainly generated in macroscopic nonlinearoptical systems with elaborately tailored optical properties. In thistheoretical work, we extend the understanding on the generation of entangledphotonic states towards the nanoscale regime, by investigating the fundamentalproperties of photon-pair-generation in sub-wavelength nonlinearnanoresonators. We reveal that such systems can naturally generate variouspolarization-entangled Bell states over a very broad range of wavelengths andemission directions, with little to no engineering needed. Interestingly, weuncover different regimes of operation, where polarization-entangled photonscan be generated with dependence on or complete independence from the pumpingwavelength and polarization, and the modal content of the nanoresonator. Ourwork also shows the potential of nonlinear nanoresonators as miniaturizedsources of biphoton states with highly complex and tunable properties.

Nonlinear Nanoresonators are Natural Sources of Bell States
