Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown great potential in solving complexproblems in various fields, including oil and gas engineering and otherindustrial engineering disciplines like factory automation, PLC programmingetc. However, automatic identification of strong and weak solutions tofundamental physics equations governing several industrial processes remain achallenging task. This paper identifies the limitation of current LLMapproaches, particularly ChatGPT in selected practical problems native to oiland gas engineering but not exclusively. The performance of ChatGPT in solvingcomplex problems in oil and gas engineering is discussed and the areas whereLLMs are most effective are presented.
