Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), which allows individual radarand communication systems to share the same spectrum bands, is an emerging andpromising technique for alleviating spectrum congestion problems. In thispaper, we investigate how to exploit the inherent interference from strongradar signals to ensure the physical layer security (PLS) for the consideredmulti-user multi-input single-output (MU-MISO) communication and colocatedmulti-input multi-output (MIMO) radar coexistence system. In particular, withknown eavesdroppers' channel state information (CSI), we propose to jointlydesign the transmit beamformers of communication and radar systems to minimizethe maximum eavesdropping signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) onmultiple legitimate users, while guaranteeing the communicationquality-of-service (QoS) of legitimate transmissions, the requirement of radardetection performance, and the transmit power constraints of both radar andcommunication systems. When eavesdroppers' CSI is unavailable, we develop ajoint artificial noise (AN)-aided transmit beamforming design scheme, whichutilizes residual available power to generate AN for disrupting maliciousreceptions as well as satisfying the requirements of both legitimatetransmissions and radar target detection. Extensive simulations verify theadvantages of the proposed joint beamforming designs for ISAC systems on securetransmissions and the effectiveness of the developed algorithms.
