In this paper, we show how different types of distributed mutual algorithmscan be compared in terms of performance through simulations. A simulation-basedapproach is presented, together with an overview of the relevant evaluationmetrics and approach for statistical processing of the results. The presentedsimulations can be used to learn master students of a course on distributedsoftware the basics of algorithms for distributed mutual exclusion, togetherwith how to properly conduct a detailed comparison study. Finally, a relatedwork section is provided with relevant use cases where distributed mutualexclusion algorithm can be beneficial.
