Clouds are ubiquitous\, -- \,they arise for every solar system planet thatpossesses an atmosphere and have also been suggested as a leading mechanism forobscuring spectral features in exoplanet observations. As exoplanetobservations continue to improve, there is a need for efficient and generalplanetary climate models that appropriately handle the possible cloudyatmospheric environments that arise on these worlds. We generate a new 1Dradiative-convective terrestrial planet climate model that self-consistentlyhandles patchy clouds through a parameterized microphysical treatment ofcondensation and sedimentation processes. Our model is general enough torecreate Earth's atmospheric radiative environment withoutover-parameterization, while also maintaining a simple implementation that isapplicable to a wide range of atmospheric compositions and physical planetaryproperties. We first validate this new 1D patchy cloud radiative-convectiveclimate model by comparing it to Earth thermal structure data and to existingclimate and radiative transfer tools. We produce partially-clouded Earth-likeclimates with cloud structures that are representative of deep troposphericconvection and are adequate 1D representations of clouds within rocky planetatmospheres. After validation against Earth, we then use our partially cloudedclimate model and explore the potential climates of super-Earth exoplanets withsecondary nitrogen-dominated atmospheres which we assume are abiotic. We alsocouple the partially clouded climate model to a full-physics, line-by-lineradiative transfer model and generate high-resolution spectra of simulatedclimates. These self-consistent climate-to-spectral models bridge the gapbetween climate modeling efforts and observational studies of rocky worlds.
