We offer an alternative real-space description based purely on activatedprocesses for the understanding of relaxation dynamics in hierarchicallandscapes. To this end, we use the cluster model, a coarse-grained latticemodel of a jammed system, to analyze rejuvenation and memory effects duringaging after a hard quench. In this model, neighboring particles on a latticeaggregate through local interactions into clusters that fragment with aprobability based on their size. Despite the simplicity of the cluster model,it has been shown to reproduce salient observables of the aging dynamics incolloidal systems, such as those accounting for particle mobility anddisplacements. Here, we probe the model for more complex quench protocols andshow that it exhibits the same rejuvenation and memory effects attributed tothe complex hierarchical structure of a glassy energy landscape. Beyondstudying rejuvenation and memory effects, we also demonstrate that this modelcan be used for predictive purposes on the end of memory.
