High-precision astrometry well beyond the capacities of Gaia will provide aunique way to achieve astrophysical breakthroughs, in particular on the natureof dark matter, and a complete survey of nearby habitable exoplanets. In thiscontribution, we present the scientific cases that require a flexibly-pointinginstrument capable of high astrometric accuracy and we review the best missionprofiles that can achieve such observations with the current space technologyas well as within the boundary conditions defined by space agencies. We alsodescribe the way the differential astrometric measurement is made usingreference stars within the field. We show that the ultimate accuracy can be metwithout drastic constrains on the telescope stability.
