Engineered solutions are becoming more complex and multi-disciplinary innature. This evolution requires new techniques to enhance design and analysistasks that incorporate data integration and interoperability across variousengineering tool suites spanning multiple domains at different abstractionlevels. Semantic Web Technologies (SWT) offer data integration andinteroperability benefits as well as other opportunities to enhance reasoningacross knowledge represented in multiple disparate models. This paperintroduces the Digital Engineering Framework for Integration andInteroperability (DEFII) for incorporating SWT into engineering design andanalysis tasks. The framework includes three notional interfaces forinteracting with ontology-aligned data. It also introduces a novel ModelInterface Specification Diagram (MISD) that provides a tool-agnostic modelrepresentation enabled by SWT that exposes data stored for use by externalusers through standards-based interfaces. Use of the framework results in atool-agnostic authoritative source of truth spanning the entire project,system, or mission.
