We perform systematic numerical simulations for carbon nanotube (CNT) filmmicrostrip antennas to fabricate flexible and durable applications in terms ofvarious device design parameters. The selection of appropriate materials forconductive films and a substrate of the conformable and robust microstripantennas are crucial to increase the radiation efficiency and to reduce thelosses while maintaining the mechanical properties. CNTs have been spotlightedas a promising nano-material, exhibiting excellent electrical and mechanicalperformances as desirable features for microwave wearable devices. Consideringthe material properties of the conductor and the substrate, we examine thepossible ranges of the CNT film conductivities, conductive film thickness, anda dielectric constant and thickness of a substrate. Furthermore, we modelnon-uniform spatial distributions of conductivity in the CNT film to assesstheir impact on the antenna performance. Our extensive studies of materialconstants and conductivity spatial patterns propose design guidelines foroptimal microstrip antennas made of CNT conductive films operating in microwavefrequencies.
