The present article proposes a detailed study of recrystallization ofzircaloy-4 under hot forming conditions by means of experimental and numericaltools. Thermomechanical tests and characterization campaigns that have beennecessary for this work are described. Then, the different microstructureevolution mechanisms are characterized, from the simplest one to the mostcomplex. Grain growth kinetics is quantified and the influence of second phaseparticle population is analyzed. Then, a complete study of dynamic andpost-dynamic recrystallization is provided. The occurrence of a continuousmechanism is confirmed and the influence of thermomechanical conditions uponrecrystallization is assessed. Later, the numerical framework used to simulategrain growth, continuous and post-dynamic recrystallization is presented. Afterhaving successfully reproduced the grain coarsening kinetics with and withoutsecond phase particles, the model is used to describe continuous dynamicrecrystallization and post-dynamic recrystallization from an initial equiaxedand fully recrystallized microstructure. The agreement between experimental andnumerical results is assessed in detail. Finally, post-dynamicrecrystallization is simulated, starting from two deformed microstructurescharacterized by electron back-scattered diffraction technique and immersedinto simulations. This allows to discuss and reproduce the influence of initialmicrostructure.
