Beyond-diffraction-limit optical absorption spectroscopy provides profoundinformation on the graded band structures of composition-spread and stackedtwo-dimensional materials, in which direct/indirect bandgap, interlayercoupling, sliding, and possible defects significantly modify theiroptoelectronic functionalities such as photoluminescence efficiency. We herevisualize the spatially-varying band structure of monolayer and bilayertransition metal dichalcogenide alloys for the first time by using near-fieldbroadband absorption microscopy. The near-field-spectral and -spatial diagramsmanifest the excitonic band shift that results from the interplay ofcomposition spreading and interlayer coupling. These results enable us toidentify the top layer of the bilayer alloy as pure WS2. We also use theaberration-free near-field transmittance images to demarcate the exactboundaries of alloyed and pure transition metal dichalcogenides. Thistechnology can offer new insights on various layered structures in the era ofstacking science in quest of novel quantum optoelectronic devices.
