Physics cases of increasing interest in the recent years, such as the studyof double charge exchange reactions for neutrino physics, require the study ofvery suppressed reaction channels in medium-heavy ion induced nuclearreactions. The main experimental challenges are the possibility to identify anddetect the medium-heavy quasi-projectiles and the capability to measure verylow cross-sections (few nb) with high sensitivity at very forward angles,including zero degree. The experimental techniques adopted in the setup of theMAGNEX magnetic spectrometer to face these issues are described in this paper.
