This research proposes and evaluates a superelastic memory alloy re-centeringdamper system for improving the reaction of steel frame buildings that havebeen exposed to several levels of seismic threat. The planned superelasticmemory alloy re-centering damper (SMARD) relies on high-performance shapememory alloy (SMA) bars for its abilities of recentering and augments itsdeformation potential with friction springs. To begin, this study investigatesthe superelastic reaction of NiTiHfPd SMAs under a variety of conditions andshows how they can be used in seismic applications. To gather experimentalresults, uniaxial experiments on superelastic NiTiHfPd SMAs are performed attemperatures ranging from -35 to 25 oC and loading frequencies ranging from0.05 to 1 Hz with four distinct strain amplitudes. We explore the impact ofloading rate and temperature on the superelastic properties of NiTiHfPd SMAs.The complex answer of 6-floor and 9-floor steel special moment frame buildingswith built SMARDs is then determined using an empirical model. Finally,nonlinear reaction time background simulations are used to characterize theactions of managed and unregulated buildings while 44 ground motion data areused. The results indicate that SMARDs will significantly reduce the dynamicbehavior of steel-frame buildings at various seismic threat levels whilesimultaneously improving their post-earthquake functionality.

A Novel Smart Memory Alloy Re-centering Damper for Passive Protection of  Structures Subjected to Seismic Excitations Using High-Performance NiTiHfPd  Material
