The Cauchy problem for the inhomogeneous Helmholtz equation with non-uniformrefraction index is considered. The ill-posedness of this problem is tackled bymeans of the variational form of mollification. This approach is proved to beconsistent, and the proposed numerical simulations are quite promising.
