We present an original approach for predicting the static recrystallizationtexture development during annealing of deformed crystalline materials. Themicrostructure is considered as a population of subgrains and grains whosesizes and boundary properties determine their growth rates. The model inputparameters are measured directly on orientation maps maps of the deformedmicrostructure measured by electron backscattered diffraction. The anisotropyin subgrain properties then drives a competitive growth giving rise to therecrystallization texture development. The method is illustrated by asimulation of the static recrystallization texture development in a hot rolledferritic stainless steel. The model predictions are found to be in goodagreement with the experimental measurements, and allow for an in-depthinvestigation of the formation sequence of the recrystallization texture. Adistinction is established between the texture components which develop due tofavorable growth conditions and those developing due to their predominance inthe prior deformed state. The high fraction of alpha fibre orientations in therecrystallized state is shown to be a consequence of their predominance in thedeformed microstructure rather than a preferred growth mechanism. A closecontrol of the fraction of these orientations before annealing is thus requiredto minimize their presence in the recrystallized state.
