We report time resolved studies and measurement of all the components of thethird-order nonlinear optical susceptibility of CS2 at 515 nm using degeneratefour wave mixing. The use of a pulse of width 450 fs, which is comparable tothe time scale of the molecular reorientation dynamics of CS2 makes our studyunique. Given the wide use of this molecule as a reference material, ourresults will not only be a useful addition to the data base of the nonlinearoptical properties of CS2, but also provide additional insights into the timedynamics of the nonlinear processes involved. These results emphasize theimportance of the time scales and wavelengths used to report the nonlinearoptical susceptibility values for the reference material too.
